What does peated whisky smell like?
It’s a typically drying and sooty experience. Peatiness on the palate usually manifests itself, again, in a more organic way. I liken it to root liquorice, earthy soil notes, and dark flavours, like black jelly beans, sometimes with a dry, floral-like note.2019-10-25
Which whiskey is peaty?
Laphroaig might be the best known of the Islay peaty single malts, a whisky that one can find in almost any bar, even ones that don’t specialize in brown spirits. In general, Laphroaig is a very peaty dram, but the distillery experiments with several different expressions.

Is Ardbeg a good whiskey?
The Ardbeg 10 year is a good solid Islay whisky that is a reliably tasty treat. It’s relatively cheap and enjoyable; has a nice smoky, buttery, salty and fruity nose; a tasty, albeit slightly flat, flavor and a finish that lingers warmly.2015-04-08
What does peaty smell like?
For many Scotch whisky fans, Islay single malt lovers in particular, their favorite drink is defined by the distinct aroma of peat smoke, a bewitching, earthy perfume of ancient moss. So seemingly addictive is the smell that there is now a cottage industry to deliver peat to your home.2019-10-29

How do you enjoy peated whiskey?
Most often, peated Scotch is floated on top of a drink, where a small amount has maximum aromatic impact, with The Penicillin being the best-known example. Another common technique is to pair peated Scotch with another spirit, which helps moderate the smoky influence without burying it altogether.2018-01-19

What does Ardbeg taste like?
A tinge of sweetness greats the tongue, of pure malted grains and oaky vanilla. This is quickly obliterated by smoking hay, dry seagrass, slightly bitter charcoal, and dense, woodsy peat. While the flavors are intense, they are also very well-balanced, and the tongue burn is minimal, considering its robust 46% ABV.2016-12-19

Laphroaig Lore Review – The Whiskey Jug
Laphroaig Lore is yet another NAS whisky being trotted out and dropped in the laps of the whisky drinking public and this one, by the way, isn’t cheap. At a whopping $125 this whiskey had better deliver on Distillery Manager John Campbell’s promise: “Laphroaig Lore is the story of Laphroaig itself.
Peat Bombs: Two Dozen Of The Most – Whisky Advocate
Ardbeg uses malt that’s been peated to 50 to 55 PPM, generally the highest of the Islay distillers. Other than the hard-to-find Supernova, Ardbeg Corryvreckan (96 points, $85) is technically the smokiest whisky in the lineup, but Ardbeg 10 year old (93 points, around $55) actually tastes smokier on the palate. “Smokiness can be measured.
Ardbeg's "The Committee" and the Story of Kelpie
According to Ardbeg lore, the name came from the fact that tiny Islay, with a population of only about 3,000 people, had 120 different committees. From the onset, the purpose of “The Committee” was clear— “members are expected to actively pursue a serious and altruistic duty: to bring others into the Ardbeg fold.
THERE'S SOME WEIRD STUFF OUT THERE… | Ardbeg
Ardbeg 8 Years Old is a big, youthful, deliberately challenging whisky that we think our smoke-loving, insanely committed Committee Members will go wild for. Since the birth of the Committee in the year 2000, we’ve always welcomed good, honest debate with our Members. So now, as ever, we want to hear what you think! Unmistakable smoky intensity.

Laphroaig Lore Whisky – Master of Malt
Created by Distillery Manager John Campbell, Laphroaig Lore is said to be the richest ever Laphroaig! Named after the skills passed down over the generations, this permanent addition to the range is matured in a combination of casks including first fill Sherry butts and quarter casks and is said to contain some of their “most precious stock”.

Whisky and Words Number 77: Ardbeg Uigeadail vs. Port
Ardbeg keeps it close to the chest. Click for hi-res On the palate, even a tiny sip of the Uigeadail hits first with fruit then blossoms wildly with smoke and phenols, carrying the caramel and muskmelon along for the ride. Wow. It is quite spicy along the fore and sides of the tongue, and finishes with spicy oak and bitter tannins.

Ardbeg 10 vs Laphroaig 10 – Who Will Take Home the Peat
Ardbeg Scotch Production: Water – Loch Uigeadail which flows downhill (through even more peat) and into the mash house. Peat Type – Phenolic malt, which is the strongest peat variety, at 50ppm. All their malt comes from Port Ellen as there are no malting floors on site. Fermentation – there are two unique components here.
The Ultimate Ardbeg Experience – Double Barrel | All
Ardbeg Double Barrel. The Double Barrel is sort of an iconic thing of lore in the Ardbeg spheres. For those that may have visited the distillery, this would be the elaborately packaged ‘gun case’ you would have seen locked away with the diver’s helmet behind the glass enclosure.

Laphroaig – Lore – Whisky Adventurer
By Whisky Adventurer. It is a beast of a fabulous Whisky in the Laphroaig core range. Lore has released the 18 years old. I really enjoyed the 18 years old but this one is a fine replacement when it comes to that. Knowledge passed down from generation to generation has given Lore the name and the richness. With whisky matured between 7 to 21
Laphroaig 10 vs Ardbeg 10 : Scotch
In my opinion though, Ardbeg is more of an acetone and alcoholic peat that burns a little more. Laphroaig is more of a peat smoke that just punches you in the face but then apologizes with nice citrus and oak flavors. Both are legendary in their profiles, but Laphroaig will always be the king of whisky in my eyes.
Laphroaig Lore | Malt – Whisky Reviews
My bottles for the trade were purchased at SRP, which I can’t remember, but for reference: the standard version of Black Tuesday sells for $33 today, and back then it was obviously cheaper. Ardbeg Galileo was I think around $100 and the second bottle was an indie bottle that was around $50.
Ardbeg Uigeadail Review – Food For Net
Laphroaig Lore – A mixed cask distiller’s whisky that has the same sweet notes carried by the sherry casks that feature so heavily in the Ardbeg Uigeadail. The Ardbeg Uigeadail Verdict Unsurprisingly the Ardbeg Uigeadail is an excellent whisky and you will likely find it a very satisfying whisky to try, that is unless you don’t like smoky
Ardbeg Lord of the Isles | Malt – Whisky Reviews
There, glowing as if lit by the gods, was a display of pretty hard-to-find Ardbeg whiskies. Among them was Ardbeg Lord of the Isles, which you can pick up today for around £650 a bottle. Given that few mortals can hand over such cash for a bottle, it remains out of reach for many of us.

Laphroaig Lore Review – the Meade Mule
J.R. Bergey Laphroaig Lore—a single malt whisky that some people love and some people love to hate. The love for Lore comes largely from a flavor profile that tends to get people excited—Islay peat smoke combined with sherry sweetness.
Whisky and Words Number 69: Ardbeg Wee Beastie
It finishes with some ash and smoke, but nothing like the previous review (Laphroaig Lore) while the creosote and seaweed stick around. The tannins clean up a bit roughly, with some bitterness. The Ardbeg 10 in contrast has a smoother, more balanced mouthfeel, more complex flavors (citrus and eucalyptus) and tannins that are broader, well balanced.
Lagavulin or Laphroaig – which is better? – Whisky and Wisdom
For example, you can’t make the simple statement that Ardbeg peats its malt to 55ppm phenols, when it has produced heavier peated expressions (Supernova) and lighter expressions (Blasda). But we’ll make a few generalisations now, and ask that the more precise readers don’t get too distraught if we blur a line or two.
Whiskey Review: Highland Park Dark Origins, Ardbeg Dark
The result is striking, as one would never mistake this Scotch for its more moderately-priced label mate. The color, aroma, and flavors are richer, deeper, and bolder. Vital Stats: 46.8% ABV (93.6 proof), no age statement, 100% malted barley, available at suggested retail price of $79.99 per 750 ml bottle.
Ardbeg Dark Cove Whisky Review – Bevvy
Ardbeg’s latest offering, Ardbeg Dark Cove, clearly isn’t apologizing for peat. In fact, it’s looking to dial things up to 11. The limited edition release (just 1100 bottles) has no age statement, but has been aged in dark sherry casks. It’s rich, dark gold, almost burnished in appearance and is being marketed as “the darkest Ardbeg
